BSA Bharat, a new age defence manufacturing company having its head office in New Delhi, will be jointly working on the design of warhead and development of Insensitive Munition for the Limpet Mine Project. BSA Bharat is the Development Agency for the design and development of Limpet Mine, which is a Make II project, having received the Project Sanction Order on 17th January, 2022, from Integrated Head Quarters of MOD (Navy)/ (DAPI).
Naval limpet mines are one of the most widely used underwater weapon systems – particularly for defensive measures. In India, the Marine Commandos (MARCOS) of the Indian Navy, Special Forces of Indian Army and other forces deploy this product against sea-faring threats.
Joining hands with the High Explosives stalwart of the country, HEMRL Pune, BSA Bharat will be designing the Warhead of Limpet Mine as well as development and filling of Insensitive Munition.
The country had taken several steps to develop Limpet Mines, however all such efforts had come to a standstill until recently when the project was brought under Make II. At present, only BSA Bharat is successfully spearheading this Project moving closer to being the only entity in the country to successfully produce Limpet Mines.
